And' We have made from water every living thing'

In this Universe part 18. The Water and the Life | Waaheen

 Allah, Most High, says:

وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمَآءِ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ حَىٍّ ۖ أَفَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ﴿۰٣﴾

And We haveade from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?" (Sr, Al-Anbiya 21:30)

This Verse was understood by the earlier generations, and by people in our own time, and it will be understood by people in the future quite clearly: wateris the basis of life.
Secienific progress has shown us many details that confirm this concept. Water is the basis of all life, and all created begins from the virus cannot be seen exept with an electronic microscope to the entire plant and animal kingdoms could not exsist without water. But the ratio of water may differ; for example, the ratio of water in the bodies of desert plants and animals is very low, and the ratio of water in the bodies of marine plants and animals very high. But water is enssential, because water is the basis  for all biological, metabic functions and chemical interactions inside sells. It is an exellent solvent and is essential for the transfer nutrients and waste to and from cell and tissues.

Ocean waves and coastal erosion

Durdle Door - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The waves shape and eat away at the shoreline, taking from the edges of the land. Allah, the Exalted, says:
 ( أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّا نَأْتِى ٱلْأَرْضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنْ أَطْرَافِهَا ۚ)
See they not that We gradually reduce the land from its outlying borders? (Sr, Ar-Ra'd ; 13:41)

Explanation

Ibn Mardaih narrated that Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pased with him, said. " The Messenger of Alloh, peace and blessing of Allah be upon him, said concerning the word 'We gradually reduce the land': 'It means the disappearance of the scholars'."

It was narrated by 'Abd Ar-Razzaq, Ibn Abi Shaibah, Nu' aim Ibn Hammad in Al-Fitan, Ibn Jareer, Ibn Mundhir, Ibn Abi Hatim an Al-Hakim, who classed it as saheeh, that Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them, said concernig the pleace the prase "We gradually reduce the land: 'It means the death of scholar and Fuqaha' (jurists) and the disappearance of the best of its people."

Ibn Abi Shibah and Ibn Jareer narrated from Mujahid that the phrase "We gradually reduce the land" means the death of the scholar.
Abdu Ibn Humaid narrated that Al-Dahhak said concerning the phrase ''We gradually reduce the land": Dig they not see that We granted to Muhammad, peace and blessing of Allah be upon him, the coquest of one land after another?
Ibn Jareer, Ibn Mundhir and Ibn Abi Hatim narrated that Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with concerning the phrase "We gradually reduce the land'': (It means) a decreas in the number of inhabitants and blessing.

Ibn Jareer narrated that Mujahid said concerning the phrase "We gradually reduce the land": ( it means) its destruction.
Sa'eed Ibn Mansoor and Ibn Mundhir narrated that Abu Malik said conserning the phrase "We gradually reduce the land": (It means) the town that was partially destroyed.

The estuary region and the characteristics of the partition

Scientists have noted the differences between the three categories of  water (river, sea and estuary) with regard to the degree salinity or freshness, and they have found that most creatures that livee in the sea, river and estuary die if they are taken out of theirown environment. That which lives in the river cannot live sea or estuary, and so on.

Then they classfied the three environments (river, sea and estuary ) on the basis of the creatures that live in them, and they foundbthat the estuari region is regraded as a barrier that is exclusive to most of the creature that live in it, which cannot live anywhere but in an aquatic environment that has a certain leved  of salinity or freshness, and they die if  they go out of the estuary region.

In addition to that, the estuary region is regarded as a barrier that excludes most of the creatures that live in the sea and river, because these creatures will die if thgey enter this region, which is also due to the water pressure. The wonder is that the Qur' an described the estuary region  in these terms and said "a complete partition". We can understand the world Hijr  (partition) here in the light of modern studies which show that living creatures in the estuary region live in a narrow space and are preventedfrom leaving that space.

The estuary region is also described as being forbidden to othe living creatures which cannot enter it.

Barrier between two salty seas

Modern stuies have discovered that even though the seas appear to be all the same, there are several differences in their water mass. In regions where two seas meet, there is a barrier between them. This barrier separates the two seas that each sea has its own temperature, salinity and density. (asas 'Ilm Al- Bihar, asas ' Davies, p. 92-93).
The water of the warm, saline Mediterranean Sea has a barrier where it enters the Atlantc Ocean which is colder and less dense. There are  similiar barrier between the waters of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. What modern science discovered in the last century was clearly stated in the Qur'an  Sr, Al-Rahman, where Allah, the Exalted, says:

مَرَجَ ٱلْبَحْرَيْنِ يَلْتَقِيَانِ ﴿٩١﴾
"He has letloose the two seas (the salt and freshwater) meeting together."

The Qur'an speaks of two different salty seas meeting. The evidence for that is what was stated by the Scholars of Trafseer, which is that when the Qur'an uses the word Al-Bahr without specifying, it refers to the salty sea. Moreover, if the two seas were similiar to one another, they would be a single sea. This differentiation between them in the Qur'anic wording strongly indicates that there is a difference between them, even though both are salty.

Another indication referred to in the Qur'an Verse is that it says of the two seas the pearl and coral come out of them. Scientists have discovered that pearl and coral can only be found in salty sea; they do not exist in freshwater or in where freshwater with the sea.

In 1942, scientific studies of the sea revealed the existence of a water barrier that separates the two seas the meet. This is what is indicated in the verse: " Between them is a barrier which none of them can transgress'' (Sr, Al-Rahman; 55:20). The idea of the barrier is reinforced in the verse: "....and has set a barrier between the two seas" (Sr, Al-Naml; 29:61). The phrase "none can transgress" means that one of the two seas cannot prevail over the other and change its characteristics. It also became clear to scientists that there is some mixing between the salty seas despite the existence of this barrier, and this is what is indicated by the Qur'an.

Starfish and Coral

 Starfish.....

Starfish
The starfih is a marine marine animal that i shaped like a star. Starfish vary in size and color and are found in all seas. The body of this creature is formed of a disk in the midle of which is an opening for the mouth, and from which stem five arms that are similar in length and size.  The upper surface is darker than the lower . In its body it has a number of solid plates from which snipes projec, on which plants and dirt often caught. Hence we fined that the bodi of this animal is equipped with small organs like tweezers with which it keeps its body clean by cicking up the things that get caught on its spines. The star fish feeds on believe molluscs which are know as shellfish. It consumes them in a remarcable manner which is itself a sign ofthe existence of Allah, Most High, and His Mercy which encompesses all of creation. Whan the starfish finds a shellfish, it places it among its arm and bends its body over it. It attaches its arms to the shell of the mollusc, then the arms pull in opposite directions until the shell opens. The sterfish is patient and tough; if it comes across a mollusc with a strong shell it keep pulling for a long time until the mollusc loses its strength and opens its shell, as if defeated by its persistence and patience.
When the shell opens, the mollusc extends (everts) part of its stomach out throgh its mouth and encircles the mollusc, then it starts to suck the contents until it ingests them all.

      Coral....

Coral
Coral is one of the wonders of the creation of Allah, the Exalted, which lives in the sea at depths between five and 300 metters, where the caral attaches inself  by its lower part to a rock or plant. The mouth
opening at the top of its body is the highest part of its body, and surrounded by a number of tentcles which it uses in order to feed. When these tentacles touch any prey - which is often small creatures suchas shrimp - it is paralyzed immediately and sticks to them, then the tentacles retact to ward the mouth, drawing the prey into a narrow channel like the oesophagus in humans.

One of the signs of the might of the Creator is that the coral multiplies in an asexual manner, by releasing spawn, and the resulting polyps remain united with the individuals that produced them, thus forming the coral "tree" which has avery thick stem, narrowing down greatly toward the branches. The coral tree is up to thirty centimeters long. The living colonies of coral come in various colors such as yellow, orange, red, pink, blue, emerald green or light gray. Red coral is the is solid core that is left after the living parts of the animal die. The stony skeletons form huge colonies or reefs. It used to be thought that these colonies were the summits of underwater volcanoes.

Most of these colonies or reefs are found in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, where they sometimes rise above the surface of the water and become big enough to be colnized and inhabited by people. Or they may remain hidden beneath the suface of the water where they pose a danger to dhipping.

One of these colonies is the chain of coral rock that is known as the Great Barrier Reef which
lies northeast of Autralia. This chain is 1,300 mils long and 50 mils wide, and it is formed of these tiny living creature!

Pearl oyster

Pearl
The pearl oyster my be the most amazing creature in the ocean. It goes down to the depths where it remains inside a shell made of a hand subtance that protects it from danger, and it differs from other living beings in its structure and the way it lives, It is a fine net like a fishing net, wonderfully woben. It acts like a sieva which allow water, air and food to enterit, but keeps out sand and pabbles and so on, Beneath the net are the mouths of the animal, and each mouth has four lips. If a grain of sand or piece of pabble enters it, or a harmful animal enters the shell by force, the oyster hastens to excrete a viscoussubtance that cover it and then solidifies, forming a pearl. The size of pearls varies depending on the grain of sand. This is one of many thousand and millionsof types of primitve sea creatures, and Allah, the Exalted, knows best. (Allah Wal-'Ilm Al-Hadith by ' Abd Al-RazzaqNawfal).

Layers of darkness of the deep sea

Most of the seas and oceans are covered with thick culumus clouds that block a great proportion of sunlight, as is sown by most satellite pictures. these clouds reflect back a lot of the sun's rays and keep out a lot of its light. Of the light that remainis, the ater reflect back a great deal of it, and absorbs the rest, so that the light decreases the deeper you go in the water. In his book Marines Optict, Gerloff says that the level of light in the water of the ocean is reducedat a depth of 35 metters to ten percent of its level at the surface, and to 1 percent  at a depth of 85 metetes, and to 0,1 percent at a depth of 135 metters, and to 0,01 percent at a depth 190 metters. After a depth of 1,000 metters the darkness grows so deep that there is virtually  no visibiliti and if a man stretches out his hand, he would not be able to se it.

These astonishing scientific facts are mentioned in the Holy Qur'an which came down to Arabs in the desrts who did not  know how to swim or sail in the sea an oceans. In the fortieth Verse of  Al-Noor, Allah Most High, says:

"Or the (state of a disbeliever) is like the darkness in a vast deep sea, overwhelmed with waves topped by waves, topped by dark clouds, (layer of) darkness upon darkness: if a man stretches out his hand, he can hardly see it! And he for whom Allah has not appointed light, for him there ia no light."

This Verse is in accordance with these facts, as they affirm that the deepsea is mostly covered by clouds. Tte word "like the darknes" indicates that there is no vision, and that is also supported by the word "in the vast deef sea (fi bahrin lujjiy)". Lujjiy refert to that which  is very dark and very deep. The fish at that depth have no eyes; rather they are uquipped with bioluminescence, as montioned in the Encyclopaedia Britanica. This what is mean when Allah,  the Almighty, says: '' And he for whom Allah hes notappointed light, for him there is no light." These fish are able to find their way by means of light-producimg fleshy growts that Allah, the Exalted, has created in their bodies. The sea floor slopes and change colour gradually, fading to blue before dissappearig altogether as the depth increases. As the light spectrum decreases as the depth increases, new type of darkness develop which prevent seeing some colour of the spectrum.

Hence, Allah, the Exalted, says ''Zulumaat"  (usually translated as"darkness" although it is a plural form, e.i., darkness), and He did not say "Zulmah" (singular). He said: " (layer of) darkness upon darkness" (lit. darknesses one above another).

Dr. Williams Hay notedthat fisherman are able to use the differences in the color of water to determine the depth with remarcable precision. As mentioned earlier, nowadays the simplest scientific tool that is used to measure  the depth to which light penetrates the ocean waters Secchi disk, which it becomes imposible to see it, which is taken as a set point.

The Power of the Sea

" And when harm touches you upon the sea, those that you call upon vanish fom you except Him (Allah, Alone). But when He bring you safe to land you turn away (from Him). And man is ever unggrateful."
(Sr, Al-Isra;17:67)

The water that fills the ocean and seas, lakes and rivers, atreams and channel, all comes from one source: with atoms of oxygen, which together form water.
It flow constantly, never changing, bringing life. but does water always brind life? No. Sometimes water is the strongest and harshest force on earth; it sweeps away everything that stand in its path no matter what it is. It causes disaster and floods in which rocka and solid objects are distroyed. Hence, we see in the ocean such beauty and depth, such awe-inspiring force that could be a cause for potential danger and fear.
Pheraps the most amazing phenomenon occuring at sea are the storm and hurricanes which last for  three or four days, nonstop, with waves as high as mountains and throughs as deep as valleys, with waves seemingly reaching up to the sky with no land or horizon to be seen.

Waves which are usually 25 feet high may reach a height of 130 feet during the storm. If you realize that a foot-high wave has a destructive force of six thousand pound, you can imazine the exent of the destruction that can be wrought by these waves.

According to recoads, in 1872 a strong wave in Scotland dislodged an iron anchor weighing 1,700,000 lbs, and another wave carried a rock weighing 175 thousand pound to a height of 100 feet! In 1737, in port of Babjok there was a storm which killed 300,000 people and wrecked 20,000 ships.

"O (the state of a disbeliever) is like the darkness. In a vast deep sea, overwhelmed with waves topped by waves, topped by dark clouds, (layers of) darkness upon darkness: if a man stretches out his hand, he can hardly see it! And he for whom Allah has not appointed light, for him there is no light."
( Sr, Al-Noor; 24:40)

Then suddendly the sky clears, the wind drops and the sea becomes calm. In the face of these natural forces, man in his weekness can do nothing but invoke the prises of Allah, the Almighty, may He be Exalted.

"The Originator of the heavens and the Earth. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it : Be! - and it is." (Sr, Al-Baqarah; 2:117)

Composition of Water

Water consists of particles that are firmly attached to one another .A molecule of water consists of one atom of oxygen attached to Two atoms of hydrogen. The atoms joined by chemical bond which ar forces of attraction tha hold atom together. It is the bond between atoms that give molecules different properties than the atom they are composed of. The oxygen-hydrogen bond is pola one end of molecule is partially negative whilst the two hydrogen atom become positive.

The molecules of water are attracted to one another, with the slightly posive hidrogen atoms attracted to the negative ''ends"  (oxygen atoms), of water molecules. The intermoleculer attraction is termed  "hydrogen bonding"  In the case of water the effect on the physical properties of water are quite astounding, the boiling,  pont of water, for example, is very much greater than would be the case if such bonding did not exist. Thus fact alone should make human beings and other living creatures grateful for unique physical and chemical and chemical properties of water.

Original of  Water
Ther  are number of theories which explain the origin of water on Eart. These theories include the following.
  • Water is of extraterrestrial origin

In brief, this theory says that water come to Earth from mouter space: there are rays which flow continuously throughout the universe, consisting of particles that are endowed with great energy and containing nuclei of hydrogen atoms, i.e. protons. As the Earth  rotated on its axis and around the sun these protons penetrated Earth's atmosphere and acquired the necessary electrons, thus forming hydrogen atoms which intracted directly with oxygen and formed molecules at a high altitude under verylow temperatures. These condensed into particles of space dust, forming silver clouds. Scientists also believe that the water which was formed in this way during the long period of the Earth's formation was sufficient to fill all the oceans on Earth.

In the Holy Qur'an, Allah , The Exalted, mentions this phenomenon, as He says that He sent down water from heavens. He mentions water without a difinite article so as to indicate that water in general come down from heavens. This appears in more than twenty Verses, including the following:

"Who has made the Earth a resting place for you, and the sky as a canopy, and sent down water (rain) from the sky and brought  fort therewith fruits as a provision for you. then do not set up rivals unto Allah (in worship) while you know (that He Alone has the right to be worshipped).''(Sr, Al-Baqarah, 2:22)

"IT is He  Who sends down water (rain) from the sky, and with it We bring fort vegetation of all kinds, and out of it We bring foeth green stalk, from thick clustered grain. And out of the date-palm and its sphate come forth clusters of dates hanging low and near, and gardens of grapes, olives and pomegranates, each similar (in kind) yet different (in variety and state) Look at their fruits when they begin to bear, and the ripeness thereof. Verilly, in these things there are Sings fo people who believe." (Sr, Al An'am; 6:99)

''(Remember) when He covered you with a slumber as a security from Him, and He caused water (rain) to descend on you from the sky, to clea you thereby and to remove from  you the Rijz (whiphering, evil suggestion of Shaitan (Satan), andto strengthen your hearts, and make your feet firm thereby."
Sr, Al-Anfal; 8:11)

"He send down water (rain) from the sky, and the valleys flow according to their measure, but the flood bear away the foam that mounts up to the surface - and (also) from that (ore) which they heat in the fire in order to make ornaments or utensils, rises a foam like unto it, thus does Allah  (by parables) show forth truth and falsehood. Then, as for the foam it passes away as scum upon the banks, while that which is for the good of mankind remain in the earth. Thus Allah sets forth parables ( for the truth and fasehood, i.e. belief and disbelief),'' ( Sr, Al-Ra'd; 13:17)

Marine Animals and Terrestrial Animals

scientific miracles in the oceans

Modern images taken of the seas and oceans prove that the world's seas are not all the same in composition. Rather, they vary in temperture, salitiny, density and oxygen content. In images taken by satellites each sea appears to be of a different color from the other. Some appear dark blue, some appear black and appear yellow. This is due to the difference in temperature of each sea or ocean. In image taken from satellites using thernal imaging techniques, there also appear a thin white line separating one sea or ocean from another. This is what is called Barzakh (barrier)
Allah, the Exalted, says: ( Sr,Al-Rahman (55: 19-20)

'' He has let loose the two seas (the salt and freshwater) meeting together. Between them is a barrier which none of them can trans gress.''
