Water and Life

When Allah, the Exalted, created the earth and the heavens, and He wanted to create man on this Earth, He created for him water is essential for man and other living creatures around him.....

Allah, Most High says:

(Sr, Al-Anbiya; 21: 30)

"Have not those who disbelieve known that the heavens and the Earth were joined together as one united piece, thenWe parted them? And We have made from water every living thing. Will they not then  bileve?" (Sr, Al-Anbiya; 21:30)

Water is the substance of life, the magic elixir without which life on this planet would be impossible. Allah, the Almighty, mentions water in the Qur'an 33 times in the indefinite form (Ma'un). and 16 times in the finite form (Al-Ma').

Allah reminds  the Believers that He has sent down to then water which is essential for their lives, as He says:

'' He it is Who sends down Wter (rain) from the sky; from it drink and from it ( grow) the vegetation on which you send your cattle to pasture. With it He causes to grow for you the crops, the olives, the date palms the the grapes, and every kind of fruit, Verily, in this indeedan evident proof and a manifest Sign for people who give thought.''(Sr, Al-Nahl; 16: 10-11)

: Allah, the Exalted, describes water as being blessed, i.e. productive and says

''And We send down blessed water (rain) from the sky , then We produce therewith gardens and grain (every kind of harvests) that are reaped.'' (Sr, Qaf; 50:9)

The sending down of rain from the Heavens and the Eart after it is dead are signs of the existenceof Allah, the Almighty. He says:

Verily, in the creation of the heavens and the Earth, and in the alternation of night and day, and the ships which sail through the sea with that which is of use to mankind, andand the water (rain) which Allh send down from the sky and makes the Earth alive therewith after its death and  the moving (living)  creatures of all kind that He has scattered therein, and in th veering of winds and clouds which are held between the sky and Earth, are indeed Aayat (proofs, evidences and signs, etc), for peopleof understanding.''( Sr, Al-baqrah; 2:164)

'' And among His Sign is that He shows you lightning , for fear and for hope, and He sends down water (rain) from the sky, and therewhite revives the Earth after its death. verely, in that are indeed Signs for a people who understand. '' Sr, Al- Roo, 30:24

Allah, Most High, remind the disbelievers that He has made every living thing from water and says:

"Have not those who disbelieve known that the heavens and the Earth were joined together as one united piece, thenWe parted them? And We have made from water every living thing. Will they not then  bileve?" (Sr, Al-Anbiya; 21:30)

Allah, the Exalted, describes water as being one of the blasings of Paradise, and states that the people of Hell will bey being deprivedof it. He says:

"And the dwellers of the  Fire will call on the dwellers of Paradise: 'Pour on us some wafer or anything that Allah has provided you with.' They will say: 'Both  (water and provision) Allah has forbidden who took their religion as an amusement and play, and  the life of the world deceived them. So this day We shall forget them as they forgot their meeting of this day, and as they used to reject Our Aayat (proofs, evidences, Verses, lessons, Sign and revelations, etc.').
(Sr, Al-A'raf, 7:50-51_

He also describes water as one of the forces of Allah, the Exalted, and a means of destroying the disbelievers:

"(So it was) till when Our Commmand came and the oven gushed forth (water like fountain from the earth). We said: " Embark therein, of the each kind two ( male and female), and your family - except  him against whom the World has already gone forth - and those who believe And none believed with him, expert a few.' And he [Nooh(noah)AS] said :' Embark therein: in the Name  Of Allah will be its (moving) coure and its (resting) anchorage. Surely, my lord is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful."So it (the ship) sailed with them amid waves like mountains, Nooh (AS)  called out to his  son, who had separated himself (apart), 'O my son! Embark with us and be not with the disbelievers.' The son replied,  'I will betake myself to some moutain, it will save me fro the water. ' Nooh (AS) said. 'This day there is no savior from the Decree of Allah except him on whom He has Mercy,' And waves came in between them, so he (the son) was among the drowned. And it was said: 'O earth! swallow up your watar, and O sky! Withhold (your rain).' And the water was made to subside and the Decree (of Allah, the exalted) was fulfilled (i.e.) the destruction of  the people of Nooh (AS). And it (the ship) rested on (Mount) Judi, and it was said : ' Away with the people who are zalimoon (polytheists and wrongdoers') !"
(Sr, Hood;  11:40-44) [Tafseer At-Tabai]

Allah, the exalted, mentions one of the benefets of water, whichis furification:

"(Remember) when He covered you whit a slumber as a security from Him, and He caused water (rain) to descend on you from the sky, to clean you thereby and to remove from you the Rijz ( whispring, evil suggestions) of Shaitan (Satan), and to strengthen your hearts, and make your feet firm thereby." (Sr, Al-Anfal; 8:11)

"And it is He Who sends the winds as herald of glad tidings, going before His Mercy (rain), and We send down pure water from the sky."( Sr, Al-Anfal; 25:48 )

Allah Most High, enjoins us to perform wudhoo ( ablution) at the time of every prayer and Ghusl  (ritual bath) with water every time we enter a state of Janabah (sexual impurity). Allah says:

''O you who belive! When you intend to offer Salah (the prayer), wash your faces and your hand (forearms) up to the elbows, rub (by pasing wet hands over) your heads, and (wash) your feet up to the ankles. If you are in a state of Janabah (i.e. after a sexual discharge), purify yourselves (bathe your whole body). but if you are ill or on a journey, or any of you come after answering the call of nature, or you have been in contact with women (i.e. sexual intercourse), and you find no water, then perform Tayammum with clean earth and rub therewith your faces and hands. Allah does not want to places you in difficultyyou, but He wants to purify you, and to complete His Favor to you that you may be thankful." (Sr, Al-Maidah, 5:6)

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded us to be economical in our use of water and not be extravagant.

Its was narrated that once he passed by the Companion Sa'd  Ibn Abi Waqqas, my Allah be pleased with him, when he was performing ablution and said: "What is this extravagance?"
Sa'd asked, "Is there any extravagance in doing Wudhoo?"
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessing be upon him, said: "Yes, even if you are by a flowing river, "(Hadith: Hasan, narrated by Ibn Majah).
